[ARCHIVED] EWAP assistance available for water bills

Are you struggling to pay your water bill during the COVID-19 pandemic? The City of El Dorado is taking part in the Emergency Water Assistance Program (EWAP), a federally funded program for Kansas residents.

The program’s sole focus is to restore or prevent disconnection of water to Kansas households. Kansas was awarded $9 million to pay past due and/or disconnected drinking water and/or wastewater bills for Kansas households earning less than 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Once the funding is exhausted, the program will end. Kansans may apply for this one-time benefit beginning Dec. 1 through the Kansas Department for Children and Families.

Who qualifies?

Kansas residents whose income is under 150 percent of the federal poverty level and have been disconnected from drinking or wastewater services or are at risk of being disconnected may qualify. At least one adult household member must be responsible for drinking water and/or wastewater costs incurred at the primary residence payable to either the landlord or the water utility vendor. In addition, at least one household member must be a U.S. citizen or meet the lawful residency requirements. Payments are made directly to the water vendor to make timely payments.
