Traffic and Community Policing Officer
The El Dorado Police Department has one officer assigned explicitly to traffic and Community Policing.
This position allows the officer to focus on traffic complaints reported to the police department and conduct traffic enforcement in school zones and high-accident areas throughout the city.
The officer attends community events and meetings and organizes community events hosted by the police department throughout the year.

Traffic Complaints
If you have a non-emergency traffic issue in your area or re-occurring traffic violations that you witness, you can email the Police Department at trafficcomplaints@eldoks.gov. Once the complaint is received, an officer will contact the complainant to gather details and begin their investigation. If you witness a situation that poses a safety risk to you or others, please call 911.
Child Passenger Seats
The Police Department currently has two officers who are certified to inspect and install child passenger seats. If you have a child passenger seat that needs inspected or installed you can call the El Dorado Police Department at 316-321-9120 or, you can email Sgt. John Thompson at jthompson@eldoks.gov or Officer Andres Couch at ccouch@eldoks.gov to make an appointment.
The Police Department also issues child passenger seats to qualified participants. To qualify, participants must be on state assistance and provide proof of assistance, prior to a child passenger seat being issued.

VIN Inspections
The Police Department now offers VIN Inspections to citizens everywhere. When the program first started, the hours of operation where on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In January of 2025, the department changed the hours of operation to 24/365. Citizens can contact the on-duty supervisor to set up an appointment to have their VIN inspected. This program allows citizens from El Dorado, Butler County and surrounding counties to get their VIN inspected much closer to home.
National Night out
National Night Out is a nationwide event that occurs the first Tuesday in August each year. This event is an opportunity for community members and first responders to interact with one another to get to know one another and to build relationships between the two. During the event, the police department provides food, games and prizes. This event is free to the public.
Gun Locks
The Police Department now has a supply of gun locks that are free to the public. If you have unsecure firearms in your home and you would like to secure them, you can contact any on duty officer or call the Police Department and request one.
